New Option for Food Waste Disposal

freedigitalphotos.net
The landfill's have long lamented about the difficulty of managing food waste in the landfills. Food waste produces an incredible amount of methane emissions. However, due to the fact that there weren't a whole lot of options to be found on the market for food waste, this issue had remained unsolved .

That was until 2009 when the Peninsula Compost Company decided to start gathering food waste and instead of taking it to the landfills, they took it to their composting facilities. After a few weeks the food waste was converted into richly, nutritious soil to be used for public consumption.

Although there was a lot of uncertainty that this business model would work,  it was reported last week that the company has started to turn an operating profit. We think this is such a great way to great a sustainable ecosystem!

  2. We are unsure about city programs. However, we did find this article about restaurants that are currently composting. You might want to consider contacting them to gather ideas. The link is: traveltips.usatoday.com/earth-friendly-restaurants-grand-rapids-michigan-24833.html
