That was until 2009 when the Peninsula Compost Company decided to start gathering food waste and instead of taking it to the landfills, they took it to their composting facilities. After a few weeks the food waste was converted into richly, nutritious soil to be used for public consumption.
Although there was a lot of uncertainty that this business model would work, it was reported last week that the company has started to turn an operating profit. We think this is such a great way to great a sustainable ecosystem!
